New Mistborn covers are here! Cover art by Danny Schlitz was released in Trade Paperback form back on the 14th of this month for The Final Empire as well as The Well of Ascension. These will be followed by The Hero of Ages on March 14th. There are already plans to release the 2nd Era of Mistborn, starting with The Alloy of Law on July 4th, with Shadows of Self and Bands of Mourning to follow on August 1st and September 5th. The Lost Metal's Trade Paperback has not yet published a release date; however, it is possible we will see it before the end of this year. No cover art has been revealed for anything past The Alloy of Law, but with the art of the first four books already out, we can be sure that Danny will do a phenomenal job with the final three.
While we have seen movement on the White Sand Omnibus being produced by Dynamite Entertainment, the Deluxe with Slipcase Edition has run into quite an obstacle. The first few pallets of this edition were delivered to Dynamite by their printer, only to be discovered that there were major errors with the print run. Almost the entire batch was found to have been poorly cut, resulting in misaligned pages, edges not being trimmed, fronts of pages still being connected, and test areas sticking out of the actual book. Because of this Dynamite has recommissioned the entire book. The printer has acknowledged these errors and have ordered new paper and ink for their production, however the lead time for starting is estimated to be around the 10th of March. This will result in a possible completion date of March 31st, with shipping to backers starting in April. While Dynamite is determined to deliver a beautiful Deluxe version of this book, the number of obstacles has continued to pile up against them. Hopefully we will see this volume before summer of this year.
Fairy Loot has released their version of Words of Radiance back on January 30th and 31st! These books are special editions of the original UK releases and are still available from their Fairy Trove site if you are interested in them. This edition presents gold foiling on the cover of the book as well as gilding along the edges. Fairy Loot had released the Way of Kings previously back in July of 2022, however these have all since sold out. Be sure to get your copy of Words of Radiance before they sell out as well!
Tress of the Emerald Sea is out! Brandon and his team at Dragonsteel are continuing to work with the printer to finish the production of this book in order to get it to everyone who backed the Secret Projects Kickstarter. So far around 25% of backers have received their books, and the Dragonsteel team is continuing to receive a truckload of books at a time to package and send out. Each truckload has roughly 12.5% of the books that were ordered by fans with 6 more truckloads expected. Unfortunately, the printer is having longer than anticipated production rates based on the complexity of the foiling and color put into these volumes, as well as Dragonsteel upping their order from 25,000 books to 150,000 books due to the success of the Kickstarter. Because of this, Dragonsteel has moved production of Secret Projects 3 and 4 to a different printer who has promised that they will be able to handle the complexity and quantity of these deluxe editions. The US Edition of the Tress cover has also been reveled, with the book itself planned for an April 4th release. This can be purchased at most major retailers, with pre-orders going on now.
If you missed out on the Secret Projects Kickstarter you can still take part in the event! Tress boxes as well as Hoid boxes are available currently on Dragonsteel's website. Quantities are limited, however, so be sure to order soon! Brandon has stated that the Deluxe editions of the books will be available indefinitely, as they plan to re-order printings as long as there is interest. However, the swag boxes and additional goodies are not promised forever and could be gone as boxes sell out. In addition, Dragonsteel has already been packaging boxes for March, themed after the Cytoverse. At the time of publishing this article, Dragonsteel is approximately 68% done with these boxes and their delivery should be on time.
Speaking of the Cytoverse, Defiant is finished! Brandon has put the final touches on Defiant, completing his third and probably final revision of the book. The cover was also recently revealed Here! This will be the 4th and final installment in the main Cytoverse series. Janci Patterson has been confirmed to be working on more adventures in this universe, however the main Spensa saga will be at an end. The book is set for a November 21st release date, being the release event book for this year’s Dragonsteel 2023 Convention. This convention will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, tickets have not yet gone out for sale. Keep an eye on this though, as Dragonsteel 2022 was announced in May of last year, so it's only a matter of time before we see more news!
