2022 was a big year for Dragonsteel, and 2023 is looking to be even busier. Brandon recently released his State of the Sanderson 2022, which is his yearly update on how things went and what he has in store for the future. He touched on quite a few topics this year, with his view on the current Audiobook market and the upcoming Year of Sanderson being very big talking points. Be sure to check this out as there are some interesting things in the works, as well as some cool plans for the future!
To start things off we had not just one, but two new Leatherbounds released back on November 28th. Mistborn Era 2 made its debut with Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self being offered as a pair for $150 on Dragonsteel. At the time of release there were 2,000 Signed / Numbered sets, 3,000 Signed sets, and 10,000 Unsigned sets. The Signed / Numbered sets sold out in only 5 minutes and the Signed sets sold out after only 1 hour! There are still over 6,000 of the Unsigned left at the posting of this article, but you can be assured they will eventually sell out. These books are beautiful with full color endpapers designed by Dan Watson and Miranda Meeks, gilded pages, two-color foiling for the covers and original artwork throughout. Be aware, however, that the $150 price point is a limited deal. Once these sell out, they will only be available individually at $100 apiece.
There has been movement on the White Sand Omnibus being developed by Dynamite. This project began as an Indiegogo Campaign back in February of 2022 with 3 formats being produced: Softcover Edition, Hardcover Edition, and Deluxe with Slipcase Edition. The project is incorporating all 3 of the White Sand Graphic novels together with some new and updated content. Though there have been challenges along the way, we are finally starting to see fulfillment, with Softcover and Hardcover Editions currently being shipped out to the backers. The Deluxe Slipcase version is still in production, but Dynamite is hoping for an update to these before the 14th of the month.
The Words of Radiance Leatherbound Kickstarter is confirmed for a Fall debut in 2023. Dragonsteel had initially wanted to start this campaign in March of 2023, however with the Secret Projects Kickstarter still entering the beginning of its fulfillment phase, and the Stormlight Action Figure Kickstarter still in development and production, Brandon was leery to begin a new Campaign without first moving forward on each of these. The good news, however, is that the production of the Words of Radiance Leatherbounds is still moving forward, so this decision did not impact the overall timetable for fans to get their hands on it! Current fulfillment is estimated as late 2023 / early 2024.
Brandon has finally settled on a title for Stormlight 5! The final book in the front 5 will tentatively be titled “Knights of Wind and Truth”. This will round out the Ketek Brandon had been developing for the Stormlight 1-5 titles, with only a slight deviation at the end (which fits well into Vorin Societies’ beliefs of near perfection in symmetry). Brandon has a tentative release date of November 2024 for this title, which will be the main theme of Dragonsteel Con 2024. The release event is set to be the largest in Dragonsteel’s history, and the company is already planning for this behind the scenes. We can only wait and see what is in store for us!
New covers for the Era 1 Mistborn books are scheduled for release in February and March of 2023 by TOR. These covers feature all new cover art by Danny Schlitz and look fantastic! These will most likely only be available in Trade Paperback format, but we can always hope for a Hardcover release as well.
Finally, we have the Year of Sanderson! This month kicks off the start of the Year of Sanderson for anyone who backed the Secret Projects Kickstarter in 2022. January will be headlining with Secret Project #1. This box will be slightly delayed due to shipping delays for the cover material, as well as blizzard like conditions at the printer’s location. However, Dragonsteel has assured us that boxes will be shipped and arriving in January, with a possible overlap into February for some orders. The following outline covers each month’s theme.
