Where to buy all these awesome books?

Ancestral Guild Hunting Grounds

CollectingSanderson.com

One of the easiest ways to shop the second hand market for collectible Sanderson books is here through this website!  Search through the extensive yet easy to navigate database of Brandon Sanderson books to find the one you are hunting for and each page will have a list of common retailers with a quick search options by ISBN or title.  It is an extremely convenient way to search multiple platforms for the best deals or rare editions!

Dragonsteel Books

Always check Brandon's store and buy direct if possible. It is the best place to purchase his books, some even come signed. They are typically shipped USPS Media Mail and packaged extremely well. It is the most cost effective way to purchase new releases and you know you are getting what you ordered here, no need to worry about condition or if the signature is real.

A lot of times shady sellers purchase books directly from Brandon's store and then immediately post them to Ebay raising the price sometimes 5x what they just paid taking advantage of novice collectors or family members trying to buy a special gift for a collector. This is especially true of the leather bound editions. They are very popular and are out of stock frequently but they announce when they are restocked and you can join the Collectors Guild Discord for alerts for when they are back in stock or follow Brandon on Twitter.

AbeBooks

A world wide third party selling platform owned by Amazon. You can search for new or used books, including rarer signed or first editions on this site. Each seller packages and ships differently.

Amazon

While you probably think of Amazon as selling only new books, they also allow sellers to offer "Collectible" versions as well. You can find this under format in the description. These are listed by individual sellers, so your book will not be shipped from an Amazon Warehouse. You will need to do your due diligence to ensure the book is exactly as described.

Subterranean Press, Grim Oak Press

Sanderson likes to work with small independent publishers/printers to produce some of his most beautiful editions.

Book Depository

Worldwide shipping.

Blackwells

UK based but offers free worldwide shipping.

Barnes & Noble

A large American chain bookstore retailer. Often releases their own editions sometimes with tip-in signatures or alternate cover art. Does ship outside of the USA.

Indigo

A large Canadian chain book store retailer, does ship to the USA.

Anderida Books

UK based, Produces limited signed and numbered editions.

Half Price Books (HPB)

This is a large franchise chain of bookstores specializing in used books online and in store. These books are generally acquired from members of the public that bring in their used books to the store for the store to buy cheaply and then they sell. They have a large selection of books, but you will need to be aware of the condition, as these are used books. You may want to call to gather more details about a specific book listing. Online listings can be pretty sparse with details and pictures but there are very good deals to be found if you are determined and consistent.

Online Auction Sites

Take extra care when purchasing from these sites. Double check all the images, read the full description and return policies before placing a bid, once you make an offer and it's accepted you have legally made a purchase. If you make a mistake a seller may help you out but they are not obliged to cancel a sale. Unless you find they have made an error in the listing such as the pictures don’t match the description or described as the wrong printing as examples, then you just bought that item. If necessary, ask questions or request more pictures before you hit buy. If all else fails, ensure they have an adequate return policy.

Ebay

A great place to find rare or hard to find editions including ARC’s and Bound Manuscripts. Not all sellers ship to all locations and each seller has their own return policy. Check reviews to help you determine trustworthiness of the seller and to make sure they ship your package well wrapped.

Mercari

Another great place to find collectible editions and often hard to find swag. They only ship within the USA so if you live outside the USA a mail forwarding service might be useful for you.

Thrift Stores

A very cost effective and fun place to hunt for books.

Other Collectors

Some collectors have extra copies they keep for trades or to sell later on.

Library Sales

Check your local libraries for annual or semi annual sales. A very cost effective way to build out your collection and the proceeds go towards the running of the libraries in your community.

Expert Tip- Volunteering for the library sales may help you get first picks before the sale starts.

Join Online Groups like Facebook Marketplace

Another budget friendly way to fill out your shelves is using sites that promote reusing by selling or even giving away for free unwanted items including books (like A Way of Kings 1/1 that has been sitting on a shelf for more than a decade just waiting for you to grab for $5). Good for your wallet and good for the environment.

Second Hand Book Stores

Find out if you have any second hand book stores in your area and visit them often. Maybe let them know what you're looking for, they may be able to keep an eye out for you and may even be able to let you know when they get one in. It never hurts to ask but if they can't they can't, don’t the hassle book store employees they are good people.

Enter Giveaways or Contests

Authors and publishers often do giveaways for publicity and or charity. Check Author and Publishers Twitter, Website, Facebook, Instagram, Subscribe to Newsletters and Goodreads.

As well as online retailers, brick and mortar book stores still exist! When Brandon was first starting out and not as well known a few book stores recognized his talent and supported him before he was famous and now he likes to pay back by sometimes making special numbered editions available at these few retailers including:

Weller Books, Mysterious Galaxy and the BYU Store.

Announcements for these are made well in advance though his newsletters, Twitter, YouTube and if you are a member of Sanderson Collectors Guild you will receive the most up to date Sanderson news for any releases.
