Where to Purchase?

With the advent of the internet, you can purchase books from just about anywhere, but over the years there have been a few that have tended to be more reliable.

A few things to consider when purchasing over the internet

  • Where is it coming from?  Is it from a bookstore (who typically knows how to properly care for books) or an individual?
  • How is it being shipped?  USPS Media Mail is the typical method for shipping as its cheap, but it can also be extremely slow at times
  • How is it being packaged?  Some of the books you order can be worth hundreds of dollars and you want to ensure that it arrives without any damage.
  • Is it coming from over seas?  Customs can greatly delay shipping times and the longer a book is in route, the greater the chance that accidents can happen

Main Sites

  • Brandon Sanderson Store - You can purchase Signed books directly from Brandon.  They are typically shipped USPS Media Mail and packaged extremely well.  While these will most likely not be 1st Printings, its perfect for the casual collector.
  • AbeBooks - Owned by Amazon, you can find Bookstores and some individuals who sale new and used books through this platform.  Each seller packages and ships differently, but usually you won't have any issues.
  • Amazon - While usually you think of Amazon as selling "New" books, they also allow sellers to offer "Collectible" versions.  You will see this under the Format.  These are listing by individual sellers though, so your book will not be shipped from an Amazon Warehouse.  You will need to take due diligence to ensure the book is exactly as described.

  • Half Price Books - They have a large selection of books, but you need to be careful on the condition and you may have to call to determine more details about the book as listings can be pretty spare with details.
  • Ebay / Mercari - As with any auction site, you have to be careful of what you are buying.  Be sure to double check all the images, and if necessary ask questions of the sellers.  If all else fails, ensure they have an adequate return policy.
